Sadly, the culture that surrounds the girls you love tell them there is nothing special about being a girl. Provide a way for your girls to be immersed in books that nurture their strength and femininity. The heroines in these books provide role models who are resilient, compassionate, and have a strong moral compass–the very virtues that make society strong.

“Humor is the spiciest condiment in the feast of existence. Laugh at your mistakes but learn from them, joke over your troubles but gather strength from them, make a jest of your difficulties but overcome them.”

“I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.”

“…The love, respect, and confidence of my children was the sweetest reward I could receive for my efforts to be the woman I would have them copy.”

“Not a thing had happened the way she had planned, no, not a single thing! But it seemed to her she had never been so happy in her life.”

“It made her think that it was curious how much nicer a person looked when he smiled. She had not thought of it before.”

“Dear God, thank you for warm summer nights and candlelight and good food. But thank you most of all for friends. We appreciate the complicated and wonderful gifts you give us in each other. And we appreciate the task you put down before us, of loving each other the best we can, even as you love us. We pray in Christ’s name, Amen.”

“Truth is when your mind and your gut agree.”

“Love is larger than the walls which shut it in.”

Goose Girl (Series Books of Bayern)

“Sometimes it seems my identity’s a matter of opinion.”

“Naw, Jem, I think there’s just one kind of folks.”

“More than anything, it was the blue dolphins that took me back home.”

“I am poor, but I am rich. I have my children, I have a garden with roses, and I have my faith and the memories of those who have gone before me. What more is there?”
