Protect the Girls You Love from Harmful Media Messages

SAY STOP. Give harmful media “the hand” as I show in my video.

SPEAK UP.  When you see a magazine cover that parades women’s scantily-clad bodies, SPEAK UP: “Honey, that’s not how women should be valued.”  When  she is selecting movies, say “No” if casual sex is glamorized. Be firm. “This movie is harmful. Healthy relationships are built upon friendship not casual sex. Casual sex has serious consequences.”

CREATE A NURTURING SPACE. Yes, we live in the “great and spacious building” of harmful media messages. You can nurture your daughter’s mind and heart with literature and music that challenge these harmful messages. Check out my post on books and role models that support our true nature as women. Explore the ways that harmful “perfectionism” has crept into our every day life experience.
